The Problem

EdEHR already gives students a full clinical chart to navigate. For learners who know what they're looking for, that's exactly right. For early-stage students, it can be overwhelming — they don't yet know what to notice, what to act on, or in what order.

SimQuest adds a guided layer to the existing simulation experience. It doesn't simplify the chart or remove clinical complexity. It gives students a structured pathway through the chart — requiring them to look in the right places, interpret what they find, and document their actions before the case can evolve. The pathway is made up of a pipeline of steps, one pipeline per SimTiming™ stage.

Faculty design the pathway — the clinical story and the chart data that tells it. Students work independently, each at their own pace — one student's progress is entirely separate from another's. The chart does the teaching.


How It Works

A SimQuest pipeline is attached to the Learning Object — an ordered sequence of steps the student must complete. Where SimTiming™ is included, the pipeline can advance the simulation clock as one of its step types. SimTiming™ is optional.

Each completed stage earns the student points, with a bonus awarded for completing the full SimQuest. Faculty configure the point values as part of the Learning Object.

There are five step types:

đź“‹ Visit Pages

The student must navigate to specific chart pages and tabs. A progress indicator fills as each is visited — in any order. The student is not told why those pages matter; the clinical significance of what they find is for them to interpret.

âť“ Quiz

A question unlocks once required pages have been visited. The student must select the correct answer before the pipeline continues. Supports single-answer and numeric entry formats.

📝 Record Entry

The student enters a clinical record — structured data like vital signs, or free-text like a progress note or SBAR. For structured entry, faculty provide sample values. For free-text, the record type is pre-selected and the student authors the content.

đź’­ Reflect

The student is prompted with an open question and writes a free-text response. There is no correct answer. Content is captured for debrief review and future AI-assisted assessment.
